How to maintain linen fabric

Linen is a beautiful and durable fabric made from the fibers of the flax plant. Conventional fabrics made from linen include tablecloths, napkins, curtains and clothing. For thousands of years, linen has been around and well cared for in long-term dry cleaners. When linen fabrics are stronger and smoother than cotton fabrics, there are certainly better ways to keep your linen fabrics lasting a little longer.
1. Follow manufacturer's instructions.
Linen fabrics come in different dyes, textures and weaves. Therefore, you should carefully read and follow the manufacturer's usual markings on the back for cleaning, drying and ironing. Try to follow these rules until you try something else. Might be more dangerous.
2. Test any cleaning process in an inconspicuous area.
If you are likely to damage the linen, test an area that cannot be seen, such as the underside of the fabric.
3. If there are stains, they should be removed immediately.
The longer you wait, the more stain will soak into the linen and the harder it will be to clean. There are many ways to remove stains, as with various products. For example, stains on ballpoint pens can be cleaned with hairspray.
4. Avoid using chlorine bleach.
You can use color conditioner or bleach on linens, but regular chlorine bleach can damage the fabric. Generally speaking, any type of dry cleaning detergent will work, but you may want to use a milder variety such as deodorant or Original American Baby Laundry Detergent.
5. Wash in underfilled containers. The more water the better.
Wash with same colors and at recommended temperature. It is common to place soft linen-lined linens in pillowcases or mesh bags to protect the linens from all possible deformation. If your water has a high lime content, you will need to add a softener.
6. Do not wring linens.
If possible, white linen can be hung in the sun to keep the fabric white. Avoid over-drying linen, which can cause it to lose its softness and wrinkle. This is difficult to reverse. You can dry it using a lower setting, but follow the manufacturer's instructions.
7. Iron the sheets while they are still wet.
This will make your ironing easier. Make sure the bottom of the iron is clean, smooth and free of any impurities. You can also try dampening the linen with your hands. So you don't need to iron it at all.
8. Store sheets in a cool, dry place (not in cedar trunks).
You don`t want your sheets to get moldy. If mold develops, use an oxygen bleach solution and dry the linens in the sun.
